Julia Volkova was born in Moscow in 1985. She started in music at 14 when she auditioned for the girl group t.A.T.u. alongside Elena Katina. Their debut album '200 km/h in the Wrong Lane' came out in 2001.
After t.A.T.u. ended, Volkova began a solo career in 2011. Her first single was 'All Because of You'. She later released songs like 'Сдвину Мир' and 'Back To Her Future' with Dima Bilan.
In 2012, she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and had surgery. She returned to performing afterward.
