Julie London was born Gayle Peck in Santa Rosa, California in 1926. She moved to Los Angeles after high school and signed with Capitol Records in 1947. Her 1955 album 'Julie Is Her Name' became her breakthrough, featuring what would become her signature song, 'I'm In The Mood For Love.'
Her voice had a quiet, intimate quality that worked well with sparse arrangements. She recorded over 30 albums, including 'Julie Sings the Gershwins' in 1959 and 'Make Love to Me' in 1967. Other notable songs in her catalog include 'Cry Me a River,' 'Sway,' and 'Warm In December.'
London was also an actress, appearing in films and television shows. She was married three times, including to actor Jack Webb.
