Junkies

Junkies formed in Budapest in the late 1980s, playing a mix of punk, reggae, and Hungarian folk melodies. Their debut album 'Baj van a Paradicsomban' came out in 1990, followed by records like 'Ezt a Várost Neked Adnám' in 1993 and 'Köztársaság' in 1996. The band's lineup has stayed fairly steady with Ferenc Műnnich on vocals and guitar, László Gyenesei on bass, János Szakácsi on drums, and Péter Szendrey-Nagy on guitar and vocals.

Their song 'Ne Csinalj Nekem Programot' from 1990 became an anthem for young people pushing back against the communist regime. Other tracks like '2000' and 'A Helyzet Valtozatlan' show how their music blended social commentary with straightforward rock energy. They kept recording into the 2000s with albums such as 'Kövek' in 2003.

Junkies helped shape what alternative rock sounded like in Hungary during the 1990s. Their records found an audience looking for something rougher and more direct than mainstream pop, and they influenced plenty of bands that came after them.
