Mit Ruß färbt sie schwarz die Moschee.
Die Stadt in der Sonne begreift es noch nicht,
daß ihre Kinder sich nicht mehr versteh'n.
In unser'n Häusern sagte mir ein Mädchen,
schlugen Granaten große Löcher in die Wände.
Und Stacheldraht zerteilt den alten Marktplatz,
in Kellern bau'n sich die Soldaten Unterstände.
Es spielen Kinder schon mit Holzgewehren,

Man schwenkt die Fahnen, stirbt für seinen Glauben.
Es kämpfen Nachbarn plötzlich auf verschied'nen Seiten.
Und jeder spricht von Freiheit, die es wert sei,
daß man die Stadt zerstört, um die sich beide streiten.
Die auf den Hügeln sehen zu voll Grauen
und hoffen um so mehr bald wieder aufzubauen.
