JV Farra formed in Porto Alegre, Brazil in the mid-1990s, led by vocalist Juçara Velloso and guitarist Fábio Farra. Their debut album 'Saudade, Né, Minha Filha?' came out in 1996 and included songs like 'Cachaça Com Siriguela' and 'Casa, Comida e Amor.' The band's sound drew from bossa nova and samba, with lyrics that often dealt with love and longing.
They released several more albums over the next two decades, including 'Quando o Tempo Passar' in 2001 and 'Onde o Tempo Passou' in 2008. Their music sometimes incorporated jazz and electronic elements while keeping Brazilian rhythms at its foundation. The track 'Forrózinho de Favela' shows their connection to traditional forms.
JV Farra worked with other Brazilian musicians like Ivan Lins, Gilberto Gil, and Marisa Monte on various projects. Their later albums 'Em Nome de Deus' (2015) and 'Cancioneiro' (2019) continued exploring emotional themes through their particular blend of Brazilian styles.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
