K-chique formed in Monterrey, Mexico in 1997, with an original lineup that included vocalist Javier de la Rosa, keyboardist Sergio Rojas, bassist Jorge de la Rosa, drummer Javier Villarreal, and accordionist Jesús de la Rosa. They released their debut album 'Cumbia Por Tu Amor' in 1999, which gave them their first major hit with the title track.
In 2002, Javier de la Rosa left the band and was replaced by singer Orlando Segura. The group continued recording through the mid-2000s with albums like 'Amor Infiel,' 'Destino Cruel,' and 'El Imperio del Norte.' Their music stayed within the cumbia tradition, with accordion and rhythmic patterns that worked well for dancing.
They had some legal issues around copyright claims, but kept performing and recording. The band's sound remained consistent through lineup changes, anchored by that familiar cumbia rhythm and romantic themes in songs like 'Ka´ure Por Tu Amor.'
