K-LaNGuiu formed in the early 2000s with three members: João Francisco on vocals, Pedro Sousa on bass, and Pedro Martins on drums. They started by mixing electronic beats with traditional Portuguese rhythms. Their debut album 'Projecto Ultramar' came out in 2003 and included the song 'Hugão Langão,' which became popular with younger listeners in Portugal.
Their lyrics sometimes touched on politics and social issues, which led to criticism. In 2006, they released 'Com Pau Com Pedra,' a song that was interpreted by some as promoting violence against women. The band said it was meant as social criticism rather than an endorsement. After their debut, they put out several more albums including 'Fino Trato' in 2005, 'Marcha' in 2008, 'Bailar' in 2011, and 'O Último Verão' in 2014.
