Kaada/Patton is a collaboration between Norwegian electronic composer Kaada and American vocalist Mike Patton, best known as the frontman of Faith No More. They formed in 2013 when Kaada sent Patton some demo material, and Patton responded by adding his vocals to the tracks. Their self-titled debut album came out that same year, followed by a live recording in 2014 and another studio album called 'Bacteria Cult' in 2016.
Their music tends toward atmospheric, experimental soundscapes, with Patton's voice weaving through Kaada's electronic arrangements. One of their tracks, 'Seule,' gives a sense of their style, ethereal and a bit haunting, built more on mood than conventional song structure. They worked across the distance between Norway and California, which meant trading files and ideas remotely rather than sharing a studio.
While they received positive reviews for that first album, Kaada/Patton never became a full-time project for either musician. Both have kept busy with their own separate work, and the collaboration has remained a sporadic one. Their recordings together feel like a specific, contained chapter rather than an ongoing band, a side venture where two distinctive artists found a temporary common ground.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
