Archive material and source history

Kabát formed in Teplice in 1983. Their music pulls from hard rock and heavy metal, with a sound built on loud guitars and Josef Vojtek's rough vocals. Songs like 'Moje Holka je Batman' and 'Shořel Náš Dům' became staples, mixing straightforward rock energy with lyrics that could be playful or sharp.

They released albums steadily through the 1990s and 2000s, including 'Go satane go' in 1995 and 'Colorado' in 1997. The band's lineup shifted some over time, with Ota Váňa on keyboards eventually replaced by Jan Toužimský, but the core of Vojtek, Milan Špalek on guitar, Tomáš Krulich on bass, and Radek Hurčík on drums held for much of their run.

Their 1999 song 'Moje Holka je Batman' turned into a kind of national rock anthem in the Czech Republic, the sort of track that gets shouted back at concerts. Kabát's shows were known for being loud and direct, and they built a durable following without much fuss outside their home country.
