1958 was een heel mooi jaar.
De zomer duurde eeuwig
of verbeeld ik me dat maar?
Achter op de Solex op een wereldreis,
naar de Westerbouwing,
de draaimolen de wip en 't ijs.
We woonden in een nieuwbouwwijk,
die barstte van het jonge leven.
De straat was nog vrij.
Twee kevers en een DKW,
was alles wat ons in de weg stond
op ons speelterrein.
1958 was een bijzonder jaar.
We kregen televisie,
die kreeg een plaats op het dressoir.
Mijn vriendjes wilden altijd wel
bij ons terecht.
Als het kinderuurtje daar was
werden ruzies heel snel bijgelegd.
Op maandag rook het huis naar was,
gekookt in een enorme ketel,
zo op het fornuis.
Op zaterdag was ik de klos,
dan werd ik in een teil gewassen,
geen douche in ons huis.
Hoe kon ik weten dat een oorlog had gewoed
nog zo kort geleden Arnhem bijna doodgebloed.
Verlaten en geplunderd, de binnenstad in puin.
Ik was klein, ik kende geen nood.
Alles nieuw en niemand ging dood.
In 1958 was mijn broer nog thuis,
hij was wel tien jaar ouder
en smeerde brylcream in zijn kuif.
Hij hield van Rock & Roll
en van Brigitte Bardot.
Reed op een Berinin.
Hij was mijn voorbeeld, mij idool.
Op de grens van arm en rijk,
was alle luxe nog een wonder.
De wereld werd groot.
Toch leek die tijd een eeuwigheid,
alsof het altijd zo zou blijven
en niemand ging dood.
