Kadie Elder formed in 2011 as a trio with singer-songwriter Kadie Elder, multi-instrumentalist Jamie Mefford, and drummer Samantha Potter. They released three albums: 'Liminal' in 2013, 'Converge' in 2015, and 'Dreamers' in 2018. Their songs like 'Bring Her Back' and 'Kids On The Moon' showed their folk and indie rock leanings.
Their track 'First Time He Kissed a Boy' became their most recognized song, dealing openly with LGBTQ+ themes. It connected with listeners who found something personal in its straightforward storytelling. Other songs like 'Istanbul' and 'W Y W (What You Want)' kept to their style of direct lyrics and uncluttered arrangements.
They worked quietly for several years, putting out EPs between albums. The music stayed grounded in Kadie Elder's vocals and the trio's playing, without much studio fuss. Their last album came out in 2018.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
