The vocal trio formed by producer Yuki Kajiura created ethereal themes for shows like Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica.
For their sound at its most dramatic, 'Magia' still hits hard. 'Serenato' shows the more delicate side of what they could do.
When 'Magia' opened Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica in 2011, it introduced a generation of anime fans to Kalafina's signature sound. Their layered vocals over orchestral arrangements became a recognizable texture in anime music throughout the late 2000s and 2010s. Songs like 'Seventh Heaven' and 'Serenato' showed how their approach could work both as dramatic themes and standalone tracks.
Yuki Kajiura formed the group in 2007 with vocalists Wakana Ootaki, Keiko Kubota, and Hikaru Masai. They released albums like 'Seventh Heaven' in 2009 and continued through anime soundtrack work until Hikaru Masai left in 2018 due to health reasons. Their final release was the 10th anniversary album 'Grace' that same year before becoming inactive.
