Kalangus do Cerrado formed in 1994, with Marçal Alves, Chico César, and Josias Ribeiro as core members. They came from Brazil's Cerrado region, and their music drew on folk, rock, and reggae traditions. Their first album came out in 1997, followed by others like 'O Som do Cerrado' in 1999 and 'Flor do Cerrado' in 2002.
Their song 'Pode Crer' became particularly well-known, along with tracks like 'Sonhei' and 'Sacana'. In 2002, they faced accusations of plagiarizing another song, which sparked some debate. They kept making music through that period, releasing 'Cantos do Cerrado' in 2005 and 'Raízes do Cerrado' in 2010.
Their work sometimes touched on social and environmental themes. They continued performing and touring after those album releases.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
