A Russian band that mixed post-punk with folk, facing controversy over lyrics about alienation.
For a quick sense of their sound, try 'Минута В Минуту' or 'Плацебо'. Both have that post-punk drive and lyrical directness they're known for.
Kambodge matters because they gave voice to a certain Russian disaffection without polish or apology. Songs like 'Плацебо' and 'Минута В Минуту' carried that direct, unvarnished quality. Their 2008 festival ban over so-called anti-patriotic themes only cemented their outsider stance.
They formed in 1995, led by Dmitry Revyakin, and put out albums like 'Беги На Свет' in 1997 and 'Красная Звезда' in 2000. Later records like 'Каникулы' from 2006 and 'Плыть' from 2011 kept the band going with bassist Andrey Novikov and drummer Denis Filkov.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
