Kamikaze

Kamikaze formed in São Paulo in the late 1970s, part of that city's early metal scene. They took cues from bands like Black Sabbath and Judas Priest, but were working out their own sound in Portuguese.

In 1983 they released the album "Trilha do Metal," which gave them a title track that became an anthem. That song, along with others like "Machado de Guerra" and "Chega De Ilusões," helped define their place in Brazilian heavy metal during a period when the genre was still finding its footing locally.

Their lyrics sometimes ran into trouble with authorities during Brazil's military regime, and they had critics who felt they were making metal too accessible. They kept playing through that, sticking to their version of the sound without much compromise.
