Kancravo formed in Rio de Janeiro around 2016, with founding members Pedro de Santi on vocals and guitar, Bruno Furtado on percussion and vocals, and Rodrigo Guimarães on bass. They started playing together with an interest in Brazilian musical traditions, though they weren't trying to recreate anything exactly.
Their song "Amor Sem Definição" became their most recognizable track, a straightforward exploration of love that doesn't fit into neat categories. Other songs like "Prometo Pra Você" and "O Vale É Meu País" show a similar directness in their writing.
They released a debut EP in 2017, followed by more recordings including the "Amor Sem Definição" EP in 2019, "Sobre o Tempo" in 2020, and "Capítulo Novo" in 2022. The work has a rhythmic quality that feels grounded in where they're from, without making a big show of it.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
