Kano

Kano, born Kane Robinson, came up in East London's grime scene. His debut album 'Home Sweet Home' arrived in 2004 with tracks like 'P's & Q's' and 'Boys Love Girls' that felt grounded in the city's rhythms. The album's title track became something of an anthem for the area, capturing a specific London feeling without grand statements.

He followed with 'London Town' in 2007, then '4th Quarter' in 2009. Later albums like 'Made in the Manor' (2016) and 'Hoodies All Summer' (2019) showed him working with a wider palette while keeping his lyrical focus on the streets he came from. Songs like 'Nite Nite' and 'Early To Bed' from his early work still get played for their straightforward delivery.

Kano has collaborated with other grime figures like Wiley and Ghetts over time, but his music has always felt most connected to East London itself. There's a directness to tracks like 'It's a War' and 'Spaceship' that avoids abstraction, sticking instead to the textures of the city that shaped him.
