Kargo formed in Izmir in 1996, with Koray Candemir on vocals and Serkan Çeliköz on guitar. Their debut album 'Su' came out the following year, mixing rock with some alternative and ethnic touches. The band's lineup settled with Mehmet Şenol Şişli on bass and Emir Özgür on drums.
In 2005, they released a cover of the Turkish folk song 'Al Bu Şarkı Yine Senin Olsun' that drew criticism for how it handled the traditional material. The track became a hit anyway, joining other popular songs like 'Aşk Olunca' and 'Ayrılık Şarkısı' in their catalog. Their albums include 'Geceye Meydan Okuyorum' from 2000 and 'Yalnızlık Mevsimi' from 2002.
Kargo's lyrics often dealt with love and loss, sometimes touching on social themes. They kept recording through the 2000s with albums like 'Ateşle Oynamak' and 'Ruhun Duymaz', and were still putting out music as late as 2013 with 'Yıldızların Altında'.
