Karla Monteiro was born in São Paulo in 1975 and started singing gospel music when she was sixteen. Her first album came out in 1998, called 'Consagrado Ao Senhor,' and the title track became one of her best-known songs. She's put out records fairly steadily since then, like 'Profetiza' in 2001 and 'O Grande Amor' in 2021.
Her music is straightforward Christian gospel, with songs like 'Santo e Puro' and 'O Choro Dura uma Noite' built around her clear, earnest vocals. She works with a backing band that includes Guilherme Oliveira on guitar and Amanda Silva on keyboards. In 2006, there was some talk about a plagiarism claim involving a song called 'Os Sonhos de Deus,' but it didn't seem to go anywhere.
Monteiro's catalog is mostly devotional material aimed at Brazilian church audiences. She hasn't really crossed over into mainstream pop, sticking instead to the gospel circuit where songs like 'A Cruz do Caminho' and 'Fiel como Jó' fit right in.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
