A Brazilian trio from Goiás whose songs about rural life and social themes found a wide audience.
For a sense of their range, try "Lee-o-Dua" or "Cala a boca menina." They hold up as a solid, unpretentious band from that era.
Karnak took traditional sertanejo and gave it a rock edge, which felt fresh in the early 1970s. Their song "O Mundo" is a good example of how they mixed poetic storytelling with straightforward arrangements. You can still hear their influence in later sertanejo artists who picked up on their approach.
They formed in Goiás as a trio of brothers Fernando and João Carlos Ianni with José Rodrigues Neto. Their 1974 debut album included "Boiadeiro," which became widely popular, and they kept recording despite some criticism for their direct social themes.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
