Kartada Final formed in Bandung in the late 1990s, around the time of Indonesia's post-Suharto transition. The band included Ricky Karanda on vocals, Denni "Denis" on guitar, Ardi "Boss" on bass, and Alex on drums. Their music pulled from Indonesian rock and Sundanese rhythms, but came out as straightforward punk with lyrics about inequality and political pressure.
They put out albums like "Jangan Lupakan" in 1999, "Sangar" in 2002, and "Clayde Sem Bonnie" in 2007. The title track from that last record became a national hit, an anthemic ballad that dealt with love and sacrifice. Other songs in their catalog include "Frio," "Por Amor," and "Sou De Quebrada."
They kept working despite that, and Ricky Karanda's stage presence and writing remained central to what they did.
