Katari SC formed in São Paulo around 2010, with Rodrigo Amarante on vocals and guitar, Bruno Buarque on drums, and Felipe Roseno on bass. Their first album, 'Terra,' came out in 2013 and dealt with social inequality and youth culture in Brazil. They followed it with 'No Meu Quarto' in 2016, which turned more personal and introspective.
Their 2020 album 'Contratempo' brought them wider attention, mixing electronic music, psychedelic rock, and Brazilian rhythms. Songs like 'Contratei o Tempo,' 'Neon,' and 'Retrato' show the band's range from rhythmic tracks to more reflective pieces. Amarante's lyrics often touch on social issues alongside personal stories, which has connected with many listeners in Brazil.
The band has faced some pushback for Amarante's political comments and for how they've used indigenous elements in their music. They've kept playing live and building a following despite early skepticism from parts of the industry. Alberto Continentino and Nuno Mindelis later joined on keyboards and guitar, rounding out the group's sound.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
