Katarro de Kalango formed in São Paulo in 1992. They started out playing a mix of traditional Brazilian rhythms with contemporary sounds, which didn't immediately find an easy home with labels or promoters. The band's lineup included Serginho on vocals, Bruno Trip on guitar, John MC on bass, Binho on drums, and Dani Nega on keyboards.
Things shifted for them in 2004 with the song "Astrogênia." That track blended rap, funk, and Brazilian folklore into something that caught on nationally. Its explicit lyrics and style also drew some criticism at the time. They followed it with albums like "Samba do Cão" in 2006 and "Nação do Cão" in 2009.
Other songs in their catalog include "Menina de Bigode" and "I Don't Go For War!" They released records through 2018, including a live album that year.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
