Kategorie C was a Berlin music collective that started putting out records in the early 2000s. Their sound pulled from industrial and techno, landing somewhere experimental. The track 'Chaos' became a kind of calling card for them, with its repetitive, haunting vocal line about chaos in the head.
Christoph Amler handled vocals and writing, with Wenzel Hofmann on keyboards and samplers and Hartmut Behrens on drums. Their lyrics often circled themes of alienation and confusion, which came through on songs like 'Antifa Halts Maul' and 'Augen Geradeaus'. They released a handful of albums, including 'Chaos' in 2004, 'Ex Nihilo' in 2007, and 'Vox Clamantis' in 2011.
Their live shows could be divisive. The abrasive, non-commercial sound wasn't for everyone, and some listeners found the whole thing too nihilistic. But for a certain part of the Berlin underground, that was precisely the point. They stopped being active after their 2015 album 'The Eternal Return'.
