Katharsis

Katharsis formed in the late 1990s after the dissolution of the black metal band Old Funeral, with founder Anders Nyström steering the project toward darker thematic territory.

Their 2001 album '666 (Hohelied Der Wiedererweckung)' served as a breakthrough, establishing a template of haunting, nihilistic intensity that would characterize much of their work. Other tracks like 'Kosmik Sacrifice' and 'Eucharistick Funereal' reflect the band's persistent exploration of transgressive imagery and atmospheric heaviness.

Live performances became a notable aspect of their reputation, known for immersive staging with darkness, fog, and painted faces contributing to an unsettling concert experience. While lineup changes occurred over time, with members like guitarist Magnus Nordberg and drummer Andreas Eriksson contributing, Nyström remained the consistent creative force behind the band's output through albums like 2018's 'Contemptus Mundi'.
