Kawai Sonoko made her solo debut in 2005 at age 18 with the single 'Happy Day.' She was born in Tokyo in 1987 and performs under that stage name. Her song 'Namida No Jasmine Love' came out in 2007 and was used as the theme for the anime series Nana. That track appears to be her most recognized work.
She released several other singles in the mid-2000s, including 'Sakura no Ki ni Narou' in 2006 and 'Kimi to Iru Toki' that same year. In 2009, there was some public discussion about similarities between her song 'Aishiteru' and another artist's work, which she addressed directly at the time.
Her regular touring band has included guitarist Daisuke Koyama, bassist Tatsuya Nakamura, drummer Makoto Yoshida, and keyboardist Hiroyuki Sakamoto. She put out albums through at least 2012, with titles like 'Crystal,' 'Kimi to no Kiseki,' and 'Tsubasa.'
