KC and the Sunshine Band formed in Miami in 1973 around Harry Wayne Casey and Richard Finch. Their early sound pulled from soul, funk, and Caribbean rhythms, and they broke through in 1975 with their debut album 'Do It Good.' That record included the single '(I Am) Me,' which became a global hit.
During the mid-to-late 1970s, the band released a string of disco anthems like 'Get Down Tonight,' 'That's the Way (I Like It),' and 'Shake Your Booty.' These tracks defined their place in that era's dance music. As disco's popularity waned, they faced some legal questions over songwriting credits, including for '(I Am) Me.'
They kept recording into the 1980s, shifting toward pop and R&B with songs like 'Give It Up' and 'Please Don't Go.' Their catalog also includes later tracks such as 'As Long As There's Christmas' and the Portuguese-language 'Mesmo Erro.'
