Kelly Lopes came out of Recife in northeastern Brazil, where she grew up in a musical family. Her debut album in 1989, simply titled 'Kelly Lopes,' included the track 'Convite de Amor' that became her most recognizable song. She recorded several albums through the 1990s and early 2000s, including 'Minha Verdade' in 1992 and 'Amor Maior' in 2002.
Her band at various points included guitarist Aloysio Alves, bassist Zeca Assumpção, drummer Robertinho Silva, and keyboardist Clauber de Sousa. Some of her stage performances and public statements drew attention during her career.
