Kely Guimarães

Kely Guimarães started singing professionally in the 1990s with Grupo Molejo, a well-known Brazilian group. Her solo debut came with the 1999 album 'Cartas de Amor,' which included the title track about unrequited love. She's from Rio de Janeiro, where her father played guitar and she grew up listening to samba and bossa nova singers like Elis Regina and Vinicius de Moraes.

In 2003, she released 'Será Que Sempre Assim Será?,' a song that questioned social inequality and became widely heard. Other tracks like 'A Música,' 'A Outra Face da Moeda,' and 'Carência' appear among her most recognized work. She's recorded albums including 'Ilusão' in 2002, 'Sem Medo de Ser Feliz' in 2005, 'Alma Brasileira' in 2008, and 'Resistência' in 2013.

She performs with musicians such as André Siqueira on guitar, Paulo Da Costa on bass, Leandro Sapucahy on drums, and Marcos Suzano on percussion. Her music often addresses social themes, and she's been vocal about LGBTQ+ rights and police violence in Brazil.
