Zolang ze daar niet aankwamen ,was alles rust en vreugd
Maar als ze daar van plukten, dan verloren ze hun jeugd
Toen sloop op zekere dag een slang heel zacht het hoekje om
En zei: "toe, pluk die appels toch, want anders blijf je dom"
Ze plukten en sinds dat moment verveelden ze zich suf
Ze vonden alles grauw en saai en alles even duf
Ze maakten ruzie, niets was goed en niets kon ooit goed zijn
Geen vrucht die hun nog smaken kon, behalve naar azijn
Toen kwam de grote directeur en keek over de rand
En wees ze toen voor goed de deur van 't gouden sprookjesland
Zo werden ze de werkelijkheid van 't leven ingegooid
Ze werden wel volwassen, maar tevreden zijn ze nooit
