Kérima Vieira

Kérima Vieira started singing and composing as a child in Rio de Janeiro. At 16, she joined the Samba School Portela, where she worked as both a percussionist and vocalist. Her debut album 'Eu Sou Aquele' came out in 2004, with the title track becoming a national hit. She's released several albums since, including 'Samba da Noite' in 2008, 'De Coroa a Coroa' in 2012, and 'Solta o Som' in 2016.

Her music draws from traditional samba rhythms and artists like Cartola and Paulinho da Viola, while incorporating contemporary elements. Songs like 'O Noivo Vem' and 'Eu Sou Aquele' feature the kind of infectious beats and soulful melodies that have become characteristic of her work. She leads a band that includes musicians on guitar, cavaquinho, bass, tamborim, and surdo.

As a woman working in samba, she's faced prejudice in what's often been a male-dominated space. She's used her position to advocate for other women while continuing to perform and record.
