Khatryna started playing in Rio de Janeiro bars and festivals in the early 2000s. They didn't have much money or label support at first, but they kept at it. In 2005, their debut album came out, and the song 'Em Respeito a Mim Mesmo' caught on with people across Brazil.

That song, along with others like 'Filhos da História' and 'Abençoados Pela Ignorância,' seemed to speak to something in the air at the time. The lyrics about self-respect and individuality connected with listeners, though the band's sound mixed pop, reggae, and Brazilian rhythms in a way that felt like their own thing.

They put out more albums over the next several years, including 'Em Direção ao Sol' in 2007 and 'Arquitetura Acústica' in 2013. The core lineup included Pedro Mariano on vocals, Diego Garcia on guitar, Bruno Ribeiro on bass, and Kiko Barros on drums. Some critics questioned whether they'd gone too commercial, but they kept playing their music.
