Kickback

Kickback formed in Los Angeles in 1994 with Mike Devil on vocals, Bill Stevenson on drums, Stephen Egerton on guitar, and Jason Thirsk on bass. Their debut album 'Our Machine' came out the following year, capturing the raw energy of the local punk scene at the time. Songs like 'Again Disgracefully' and 'Bumrush' had that aggressive, straightforward sound that connected with underground audiences.

After Thirsk's death in 1996, Mark Hoppus from Blink-182 played bass on their 1997 album 'Forever War.' The band kept recording through the 2000s with albums like 'Yield to Despair' and 'Something to Prove,' maintaining that same basic lineup with Devil and Stevenson at the center. Their music stayed rooted in that mid-90s punk approach without much stylistic wandering.

Kickback's lyrics often took an anti-establishment stance that drew criticism from some corners, but they never really softened that position. They were one of those bands that attracted a specific kind of listener who appreciated the consistency. You can still hear their influence in certain corners of punk where that 90s sound never really went away.
