Kid Politics formed in Los Angeles in 1992 with Jim Sauter on vocals, Joel Brown on guitar, Dave Glaze on bass, and Chad Fischer on drums. They released two albums in the mid-90s, 'Difference' in 1995 and 'KP3' in 1997. The song 'Free' came from that second album.
Their music had a straightforward rock sound with lyrics that often touched on social and political themes. They built their following through live shows before 'Free' gained wider attention.
After 'KP3', the band's recorded output slowed. They kept playing shows for a while, but there wasn't another major studio album. The four members from those early records remained the core lineup through their active period.
