Archive material and source history
Kiko Soares was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1961. He started playing music early, joining a local band called Os Mirim when he was about twelve. In the late 1980s, he formed Pagode do Trem with Marcos Salles, Ronaldinho, and Renatinho. Their debut album came out in 1988, and the title track 'Pagode do Trem' became a hit.
A couple of years later, Soares recorded a version of 'Pagode do Trem' with Beth Carvalho. The song stayed popular, though there was some legal trouble over its rights in the early 2000s. He put out a few more albums through the 1990s and early 2000s, like 'Kiko Soares' in 1995 and 'Samba de Raiz' in 2000.
