Kiko Veneno

Kiko Veneno was born José María López Sanfeliu in Figueres, Catalonia, in 1952. He grew up in Andalusia, where traditional flamenco and rock and roll shaped his early musical interests. In the 1970s, he began performing, drawing inspiration from singer-songwriter Joaquín Sabina.

His debut album "Seré mecánico por ti" came out in 1977 and included the song "Currito Ta Ta Ta," which mixed flamenco rhythms with pop. The track became widely known in Spain. Other songs like "Veneno" and "El calor me mata" followed, maintaining his blend of styles.

He has recorded more than twenty studio albums across five decades. He has worked with musicians including Raimundo Amador, Pata Negra, and Diego El Cigala. His lyrics often touch on social themes, which has occasionally drawn attention from critics.

His band has included Rafael Marin on bass, Javier Galiana on keyboards, and Luis Moreno on drums at various points. Songs like "La Chispa" and "Palabras Para Julia" show his continued output in the pop-flamenco vein he helped establish.
