King Crimson formed in 1969 from the earlier group Giles, Giles & Fripp. Robert Fripp has been the guitarist and consistent presence through various lineups. Their debut album 'In the Court of the Crimson King' included songs like '21st Century Schizoid Man' and 'Epitaph,' which established their sound early on.
That first album showed a mix of rock with other elements, but the band kept changing. Later records like 'Discipline' and 'Red' sounded different from the early work. Tracks such as 'Starless' and 'I Talk To The Wind' appeared across their catalog, reflecting shifts in style over time.
Fripp's guitar work defined much of their music, though other musicians came and went. The band's approach sometimes divided listeners, with some finding it challenging. They kept recording and performing without settling into one predictable sound.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
