Kitkerät Neitsyet formed in 1980 with Jukka Virtanen on vocals and guitar, Ari Kinnunen on bass, Kimmo Pohjonen on drums, and Jarmo Koponen on guitar. They put out two studio albums, 'Kitkerät Neitsyet' in 1982 and 'Anna aikaa' the following year.
Their song 'Feministirock' drew criticism from conservative listeners for its feminist lyrics, and some in the punk scene accused them of selling out when they found a bit of commercial success. They kept playing anyway, mixing punk energy with pop hooks.
They broke up after a few years, but their records still turn up in Finnish collections. You can hear their influence in later bands that picked up where they left off.
