Kiuas formed in Oulu, Finland in 1998. The band's early lineup included Mikko Salovaara on vocals, Atte Tanskanen on guitars, another Mikko Salovaara on drums, and Marko Kivelä on bass. They signed with Spinefarm Records and released their debut album 'The New Dark Age' in 2004.
That first album established their sound with tracks like 'Warrior Soul' and 'Across The Snows' showing their heavy metal approach. The band has released several studio albums since then, including 'Reformation' in 2006 and 'The Spirit of Ukko' in 2008.
Kiuas has experienced lineup changes over time, which is common for bands working in the Finnish metal scene. Their music continues to draw from the heavy metal tradition they established early on.
