Kleber Lucas was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1974 and grew up singing in church choirs. He released his self-titled debut album in 1999, which found an audience in Brazilian Christian circles with its soulful vocals and straightforward lyrics.
His 2003 song 'Deus Cuida de Mim' became a major hit in Brazil, topping charts and establishing itself as a gospel standard. Other songs like 'Aos Pés Da Cruz' and 'Te Agradeço' followed a similar pattern of accessible faith-based themes set to melodic arrangements.
In 2014, Lucas faced public criticism for comments he made about homosexuality, which led to calls for his removal from a concert lineup. He later apologized for his remarks. He has continued recording albums through the 2010s and into 2020, maintaining a presence in Brazilian gospel music without the same level of chart prominence as his earlier work.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
