The Knack formed in Los Angeles in 1978 with Doug Fieger on vocals and guitar, Berton Averre on guitar, Bruce Gary on drums, and Prescott Niles on bass. Their debut album 'Get the Knack' came out in 1979 and included 'My Sharona,' which spent six weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was written about a woman named Sharona Alperin.
They released a second album called '...But the Little Girls Understand' in 1980, but it didn't match the success of their first. Some critics at the time took issue with lyrics in songs like 'My Sharona' and 'Good Girls Don't,' though the band said they were meant to be humorous. The group broke up in 1982.
Fieger died in 2010. Beyond 'My Sharona,' their catalog includes songs like 'Boys Go Crazy,' 'Radiating Love,' and 'Pay The Devil (Ooo, Baby, Ooo).'
