Knochenfabrik formed in Vienna in 1987 as a trio: Dominik "Domi" Hauschild, Klaus Francke, and Friedrich "FxF" Hahn. Their music worked with industrial rhythms and distorted guitars, often touching on darker themes. They put out their first album "Staub" in 1989.
A few years later came "6 Uhr Früh," which shares its name with one of their better-known songs. That track, along with others like "Ameisenstaat" and "Buchstabennudelsuppe," gives a sense of their sound, harsh, sometimes abrasive, with a certain grimness to the lyrics. They followed it with albums like "Endzeit" in 1994 and "Amok" in 1996.
Hauschild handled vocals and lyrics, Francke worked on production and sound design, and Hahn played drums. Their live shows sometimes featured disturbing imagery, which drew criticism along with the music itself. The band faced personal conflicts that eventually led to their dissolution.
