Koffi Olomide formed his band Quartier Latin International in 1986, after spending time in the 1970s with the group Viva La Musica. His music blends traditional Congolese rhythms with modern influences, built around vocal harmonies and danceable arrangements. Songs like 'Loi' and 'Papa Ngwasuma' became staples in his catalog.
His albums 'Les Anges Adorables' from 1991 and 'Haut de Gamme' from 1995 found audiences beyond Congo, reaching listeners across Africa, Europe, and the Americas. The track 'Micko' is another example of his work that circulated widely.
In 2012, Olomide was arrested in Kenya and charged with assault after an incident involving a dancer. He denied the allegations, but the episode led to some canceled concerts and became part of the conversation around his career.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
