Kolika formed in São Paulo in the late 1980s with Daniel on vocals, Renato on guitar, Ricardo on bass, and Paulão on drums. They played hardcore with a raw, confrontational edge that connected with listeners in the city's underground scene. Their debut album 'Odeio Rodeio' came out in 1991.
That first album gave them an anthem in the title track 'Odeio Rodeio.' The song's aggressive energy and direct lyrics became a touchstone for a certain kind of Brazilian hardcore. They kept recording through the 1990s and into the early 2000s, often running into trouble with authorities and conservative groups over their lyrics and attitude.
After disbanding in the late 1990s, Kolika got back together in 2011 and started playing shows again. They've been active since, performing at festivals and putting out new material.
