Kollektivet formed in 2008 when four childhood friends from Norway, Benjamin Jønsson, Geir Johannessen, Torkjell Breen, and Stian Bredal, started making music together. Their debut album 'Soon' came out in 2010, followed by 'Voices' in 2014 and 'The Shape of Things' in 2017.
Their sound mixed electro-pop with ambient and downtempo elements, leaning on ethereal melodies and dreamy vocals. The track 'Kygo's Confession' became one of their better-known songs, though it also led to a 2014 legal dispute with Kygo over songwriting credits that ended in an out-of-court settlement.
After that, the group kept working, though they maintained a fairly low profile compared to some of their peers in the Norwegian electronic scene.
