Konshens is Garfield Spence Jr., born in 1985 and raised in Spanish Town, Jamaica. He started out as a deejay and singer, putting out his first album 'Real Talk' in 2006. That record had tracks like 'Winner' and 'Jah Mek Mi Real' that got some attention locally.
What really broke him through was 'Do Sumn' in 2010. That song's simple, catchy rhythm made it a dancehall staple far beyond Jamaica. He followed it with other club tracks like 'Jus Dance Yah Gyal' and 'Show Yourself' that kept his name in rotation.
He's released a few more albums since then, including 'Mental Maintenance' in 2009, a self-titled one in 2012, and 'Redd International' in 2017. There was an arrest in the U.S. in 2016 for marijuana possession that caused some noise, but he kept working.
His sound is straightforward dancehall and reggae, built for movement rather than deep contemplation. Songs like 'So High' and '9-5 Husslin' show his range from party anthems to more grounded street narratives.
