Sie trieben´s unter dem Lindenbaum
und liebten und zärtelten sehr.
Er träumte den uralten Bäumetraum,
sie träumte vom feuchten Meer.
Hoch wogte das Gras, es wendete
der Mond diskret sein Gesicht,
die Eule äugte und wunderte sich,
denn das verstand sie nicht.
Die Luft war sehr weich, und der Abendwind
erfrischte Leib und Sinn,
die Erde erbebte sanft und empfand
süßesten Lustgewinn.
Sie trieben´s unter dem Lindenbaum
bis tief in die schwarze Nacht
und sind selbst beim ersten Morgengraun
vom Lindenrausch nicht erwacht.
Es jaulten die Hunde, das Horn blies zur Jagd
eine treibende Melodie.
Die hat es den beiden wohl angetan,
denn beide bliesen sie die.
Die Schüsse peitschten, ein spitzer Schrei,
und er kam mit Stöhnen zu Fall.
Doch der Duft der Linde und das feuchte Gras
machten ihn bald wieder prall.
Die Jäger ritten an ihnen vorbei,
doch sahn sie die Liebenden nicht.
Sie sahen nur einen, der deckte mit sich
den andern und störte die Sicht.
Von ferne her kam noch Hundegebell,
doch das endete bald im Wind.
Und die Sonne stand hoch, und sie liebten sich
noch einmal, ganz geschwind.
Sie trieben´s unter dem Lindenbaum.
Wer will, kann sie immer noch sehn.
Doch soll er sich eilen, weil mittlerweil
die Leute dort Schlange stehn.
