Kris Kross was a rap duo from Atlanta made up of teenagers Chris "Mac Daddy" Kelly and Chris "Daddy Mac" Smith. They broke through in 1992 with "Jump," a song that went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and helped their debut album Totally Krossed Out sell triple platinum. The track's backwards lyrical style and simple, catchy hook made it hard to miss that year.
They followed up with Da Bomb in 1993, which included the title track and a version featuring Redman. A third album, Young, Rich & Dangerous, came out in 1996. Neither later record matched the scale of that first hit, but the duo kept recording through the mid-90s.
Chris Kelly died in 2013. The pair's early success came during a moment when hip-hop was dominated by harder-edged sounds, and two kids in backwards clothes offering an upbeat, danceable single stood out. "Jump" remains the song most people remember.
