Krucifix

Krucifix formed in San Francisco in 1983 with vocalist Tony Fontane, guitarists Dennis Miskiel and Steve DeSanto, bassist Mike Pucci, and drummer Steve McGee. They put out two studio albums in the 1980s: a self-titled record in 1986 and 'Beyond the Grave' in 1988. Their sound had the aggression of thrash metal but also carried some slower, heavier atmospherics that felt closer to early doom.

Their song 'Andromeda' became a particular touchstone. It's a slower, haunting track with cryptic lyrics that stood out from the more straightforward thrash of the era. The song's reputation grew over time, and it was eventually covered by bands like Metallica and Sepultura.

Krucifix's live shows were known for being raw and intense, and their lyrics often dealt with dark, nihilistic themes. While they never broke through to a mainstream audience, their two albums developed a cult following, especially among listeners drawn to that specific, murky corner of 1980s metal.
