Krunoslav Slabinac was born in 1944 in the Croatian village of Samobor. He started singing with the Zagreb rock group Korni Grupa in the 1960s, then went solo and released his debut album 'Ti si moja sudbina' in 1971.
His song 'Ako zora ne svane' came out in 1973 and became widely known. He also recorded other songs like 'Dalmatinska Elegija' and 'Hej bećari' that drew from regional folk traditions.
Slabinac was known for ballads that carried emotional weight without much ornamentation. His voice had a direct quality that suited the material, whether singing about love or place.
